# States Continue Efforts to Regulate AI in Healthcare: A Review of Legislation Passed in 2026

A 2026 legislative review tracks state laws enacted this year regulating insurers' use of AI in prior authorization and claims decisions. States including Georgia, Maryland, Washington and Utah added disclosure, human-oversight and reporting requirements for AI-assisted adverse determinations.

AI may be used to assist and streamline insurance operations, but a health insurer cannot rely upon it as the sole basis for denying care.
